8. The John Fryer Trophy for Chinese History
Mr. John Fryer was sent by the Anglican Church to Hong Kong then China for educational and missionary work.  He reached Hong Kong in 1861 and served at St. Paul’s College until 1863.  He was an erudite scholar who made groundbreaking contributions in the promotion of Western thought, science and technology during the Qing dynasty.  The trophy was donated by Mr. Lo Kwong Fung, the former Head of Chinese History Department and Chief Adviser of the Students’ Association, who taught at St. Paul’s College for 38 years.
