The History Hiking Tour to Wong Nai Chung Gap

Our Form 4 History students, accompanied by their History teachers, participated in an unforgettable hiking tour of Wong Nai Chung Gap, organized by Watershed HK.

Venturing into the historic battlegrounds and exploring the pillboxes provided students with valuable insights into the Japanese invasion of Hong Kong. This experiential learning was made even more meaningful by its connection to our school’s legacy — Colonel E.G. Stewart, our 8th Principal and an officer of the Hong Kong Volunteer Defence Corps (HKVDC), played a pivotal role in the battle at Wong Nai Chung. His bravery and sacrifice added a reflective dimension to the tour.

Students also had the rare opportunity to handle authentic wartime artifacts, including soldiers’ personal belongings and Japanese translation books, deepening their understanding of life during wartime.

This tour did more than just bring the histories of China, Hong Kong, and our College to life; it sparked curiosity, creativity, and a genuine appreciation for the past. It also promoted a healthy, active lifestyle, proving that meaningful learning can happen beyond the classroom.

One of the most touching moments was the students’ heartfelt tribute to those who fought for Hong Kong. They paused to honour the sacrifices of Colonel Stewart and all who served — a powerful reminder of why we study history.

Lest We Forget.
